Daniel was born on the 17th of January, 1943 to Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Coonon of Lebanon.  He attended St. Gertrude's Elemetary School and graduated with the Class of 1960 from Lebanon Catholic High School.  Daniel was active in scouting and was a member of St. Gertrude's Troop 33 where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

Daniael enlisted in the Marines on the 20th of September, 1961.  Having served four years in the enlisted ranks he applied for and attended Officer Candidate School.  He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on the 17th of December, 1965.  He then applied for Flight School and was sent to Vietnam as a Radar Navigator.  He arrived there on thr 15th of June, 1968 and was assigned to the 115th Fighter Attack Squadron, Marine Group 13, based at Chu Lai.

During his tour he flew over 100 combat missions.  On one of them he was shot down and rescued near the besieged Fire Support Base at Khe Sahn.  However, he fell when his F-4B Phantom attack fighter was hit by enemy fire while making a close air support bombing run supporting Marine ground forces.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.  He also received the Vietnam Campaign Medal from the Republic of Vietnam.

Daniel was survived by his parents, and three sisters, Joan, Phyllis and Kathleen.
