Fell October 13, 1971

John was born on the 24th of June, 1949 to Stephen and Ferrell Chrin and grew up in the northwestern portion of Lebanon.  He was a member of St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church serving as an altar boy for nine years.  He attende the parish grade school and graduated from Lebanon Catholic High School in 1967.  While in school he was Oresident of the German Club, a member of the History Club, and a participant in intra-murial sports.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  After graduation John attended Mansfield State College where he was a member of the track team.

He enlisted in the Army on the 28th of April, 1970, and after basic training reported to Fort Wolters, Texas for helicopter training.  After graduating with honors from flight school he was assigned to Fort Sam Houston, Texas for advanced training as a medical evacuation pilot.  He arrived in Vietnam on the 5th of July, 1971.  He was a member of the 57th Medical Detachment, 68th Medical Group.  He fell when his aircraft crashed on a military mission.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, six Air Medals, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Aviator Badge.  He qualified Expert with the automatic rifle and pistol.  He also received the Vietnam Campaign Medal from the Republic of Vietnam.

Besides his father and step-mother, he was survived by his sister, Margaret Anne, and a brother, Dennis.
