Michael was born in Hershey to Louis and Fern Langerio on the 10th of June, 1948.  He grew up in the Hershey area, attende Hershey High School, and worshipped at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Palmyra.  He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and was an accomplished guitarist.  As a member of a rock-and-roll group called James, Luke andthe Prophets, they had made recordings with the Capitol City label.

He decided to join the Marines on the 2nd of June, 1966, and after training he arrived in Vietnam in December of 1966.  There he was assigned to Company I, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division.  On the sixth of September his platoon, part of Operation SWIFT, was caught in a large ambush in Quang Tri Province.  He and all the other members of the platoon fell in the ensuing fight.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, the National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal  from the United States.  He received the Cross of Gallantry, the Military Merit Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal from the Republic of Vietnam.

He was survived by his mother, Fern Martin, and his step-father, Mervin Martin, as well as a brother, Douglas Langerio, and a step-brother, Todd Martin.
