Fell May 6, 1970

William was born to William and Loyetta Weiss on the 23rd of February, 1947.  He grew up in the Hershey area and was active in track and cross-country running.  He graduated with the Class of 1967 from Palmyra Area High School.

Little is known of his military career other than that he was on his second tour of duty in Vietnam.  He arrived in Vietnam on the 30th of December, 1968.  He was a Military Policeman on his first tour and extended for a second tour.  Operating in the A-Shau Valley at the time, he fell while performing his duties as a helicopter door-gunner.  He was assigned to Company B, 158th Combat Aviation Brigade, 160th Combat Aviation Group of the 101st Airborne Division, and was operating in the A Shau Valley.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.  The Vietnam government awarded him the Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Military Merit Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
